WE DID IT!

Just booked tickets and made reservations for a week at Disney World this spring! Yeah! I can't wait. I think Kaden and Lauren are at the age where it will be sheer magic. Ava, well, she is going to be a bit harder, but what the heck? A week of missed naps....I'm game!

So here's a question for all of you experienced Disney Vacationers- which parks were your favorites? What should we avoid and what are the things/activities that can't be missed? I'm especially interested in which of the two water parks are the best (we plan to jut hit one of them).

Congrats! I'm so jealous! It's been 4 years since we went but I definately think you for sure need to have dinner with the characters. We did Chef Mickeys and we all loved it. They all come out and dance with you and sign autographs and pose for pics. The food was even good too. We also ate at Planet Pizza at the Magic Kingdom. It's the restaurant from Toy Story where they all go before they move. All the Toy Story characters were there and it was constructed to look just like the one in the movie. Why are my suggestions all about food? ha ha

Yea! Did you find a house or are you staying on site? We'll have to see if our dates overlap, it'd be fun to meet up somewhere.

Congrats! We're heading to Disneyland next week. I'm sure your kids will love it! I'm not sure who's more excited, my kids or my husband!

Sadie was only 15 months old when we went and she was so good to just ride (eat, sleep, etc.) in her stroller pretty much the entire time. Hopefully Ava will enjoy the trip too! Definitely check out Shades of Green. We stayed there and loved it. It was cheap, very nice and easy to get to all of the parks.
We went to Magic Kingdom and the Animal Adventure Park. I would recommend both. We didn't try the water parks, so good luck and tell us what you thought of them. Have fun! I can't wait to take our girls there again.

Marnie, I'm glad you posted your blog on facebook I had fun reading up on your family. Germany would be amazing. You will have a blast at Disney World! Check out www.ridemax.com for great tips and itineraries. My sister and I split a subscription for a year ($10 each I think) and it was worth it.

Your kids will have so much fun. Yes, Ava will have a tough time but it will be worth it.

We went a couple of years ago, didn't go to any water park so I can't comment on that.

Magic Kingdom is fun. Do not stay at Magic Kingdom until it closes - you have to take ferrys over and the lines are awful to board the ferry when the park closes - leave a little early to avoid it. Or, watch the fireworks by the exit. The fireworks are good but unless you are staying at the park and can do the monorail the lines are too long to leave when the park closes.

Epcot has a fun raceway and Little Nemo ride closer to the entrance. It also has a space shuttle simulation ride that is pretty unique - definately only for older riders. The villages from around the world are interesting but it is a long walk. The kids can get a stamp from each country and do a small craft at each country. Then, there is food sampling there. Other than that - it is just a long walk around the lake. Your kids might like it since they are world travelers but it definitely isn't as exciting. Layne and I would have liked to see it more. Maybe use that park as a rest day?

Animal Kindgom is a good slower day. A few good rides, kind of like a zoo. Another good rest day. Kids will like it. Lots of walking like a zoo, not as many rides. Has a good fun rollercoaster - Everest.

MGM we had a blast. Definintely stay for Fantasmic and go early to get a spot. You can have one person stay and save the spots while the others get food or go on a ride while you wait. You and Kevin need to go on the Rock n Roll Rollercoaster. I don't think Kaden will be big enough but it is a blast.

Do the kid pass on the rides - you ask for the pass as you enter the line and then the next person can ride without a long wait.

Bring lots of snacks and water in your diaper bag. Food is expensive there so you want to limit the food buying to main meals if possible. We didn't do any special character meals but I'm sure they are fun. Our kids were a bit older and I doubt Tanner would have enjoyed that - but Camryn would have loved it.

Have fun!!!

That sounds so fun!! We took our boys there about 1 1/2 years ago. It was sooooo fun. We stayed at our timeshare and spent all our time at the parks. We got a 5 day pass. We loved every minute of it! Our favorite was the Animal Kingdom--it is really cool. I think I would have loved the epcot center--but we got there late that day (we went waterskiing with Brad's brothers family who live in Orlando). Anyway, we loved Disney world and would love to go again someday! I hope you have a great time!!

Marnie, We went last September? We had a blast- we did a land, sea package. My husband is an obsessive researcher, so here is the top points I can remember.
(1) you can ship packages to your hotel. We shipped breakfast foods, PB &J, bread and snacks over, along with ziploc baggies, and spoons, bowls. Then we quickly ate in our hotel room- and packed a snack/lunch for our day. My kids were a bit older and I packed them "fanny packs" ( I know, really stylish, but necessary) with snacks, then they weren't asking for all the junk in the park, and I could control the cost there. You can request a fridge in your room if its not already there. We found milk ( atleast I can find it in Oregon) that is cow's milk :-) that doesn't need refrigeration until its opened. I shipped that with the cereal and it saved soo much time and money.
(2) take full advanatage of the parent swap ( I can't remember the name- but you can go on a ride with the kids, then Kevin can get right on after you up the exit usually with 1 of your kids). It rocks.
(3) We loved the water park! I we went to Buzzard Beach I think and it was soo fun! It is amazing that Disney can make safer water parks, I would never feel comfortable sending my little kids on water slides usually!
(4) We really liked the Wild Animal Park.
(5) I think its well worth atleast 1 character meal- you get dedicated time with the characters and be prepared for Lauren to be absorbed with princesses, chasing them down, getting their autographs.
(6) Watch your schedule of what parks are open early on certain days and which ones close later. Its well worth coordinating those.

(7) Its worth renting a stroller at the parks. Kids will get tired and you can move faster sometimes by piling them into the stroller.

(8) Not sure where you're staying, but if you're at a place that has the boat ferry, that can be a faster way to get back than the monorail from Magic Kingdom if its the late park.

Have soo much fun! I'm coming to Frankfurt in September for a DOD gig. I would love to connect with you? if you're free and get some tips on sightseeing in the area.

Have a great time!
