Family Photos

While we were in Idaho this summer visiting family, we took the opportunity to have family photos taken. There is an old saying, "The cobbler's children go without shoes". This has been true for us with photography. When you're a photographer, it's tough to be in family photos because you're the one who is always behind the camera. So I was excited for our photo session with Caralee Case, a friend from high school. She did an amazing job, and if you're in South East Idaho, lucky you!

Our kids were really tired because our session was scheduled at their normal bedtime...darn natural light and summer nights. Anyway, they were a little on the grumpy side, but after lots of bribery and sugar, they did come around a little. Caralee was able to get some great shots regardless...check them out - Now I just need to decide which one to frame....

It's Just so Texan

We've wanted to do it ever since moving to Texas two years ago. Everyone else does it. It's practically UnTexan to not do it. What am I talking about? Taking pictures of your children surrounded by the Texas state flower--The Bluebonnet. We caught the flowers toward the end of their peak, but they were still beautiful.

Sunday Photo Tradition

Sick kids. Sick husband. We stayed home from church and lounged in pajamas all day. I hope tomorrow is a better day.

Here's what really goes on during a Sunday Family Photo session at our house. Actually, it's not usually this bad. Kevin and Kaden were sick today, and I suspect that the girls will be next (I had the tummy bug about 5 days ago). Sufficed to say, we were all a little grumpy today.

Sunday Photo Tradition

We have started a new tradition. Every Sunday before (yeah right!) or after church, we will be taking a photo of the kids and posting it on our blog. When else is everyone so shiny and clean and peanut butter free? We figure if we start now, we should have a decent enough photo by December to send with our annual Christmas letters. Here is our very first "Sunday Photo".

It Wasn't for Lack of Trying...

It wasn't quite what I had in mind intially, but it turned out pretty darn adorable I have to admit. Have you ever had one of those days when everyone was actually wearing clean clothes (freshly pressed even, which doesn't happen very often at our home), hair was neatly styled, and the light was perfect for a photo shoot--only your models decided to be difficult? Kaden and Lauren were on their way to a friend's birthday party and Kevin and I tried desperately to squeeze in a few photos before they left.

This collage reminds me a little of the dynamics of their relationship right now. They are the best of friends, yet desperately know how to push each others' buttons and drive each other mad. I can't wait to see how their relationship will continue to develop as they grow up.
