Ringtree Farms of Waverly Hill Baked French Toast

I had an opportunity to try out several new recipes this holiday break, which I will be posting in the next few days. The first was a delicious orange zesty baked french toast. I highly recommend it, although it is pretty sweet to be much more than an occasional special treat at our house.

Ringtree Farms of Waverly Hill Baked French Toast
4-5 whipped eggs
3/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup milk
2/3 cup orange juice
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
orange zest
1/2 cup sliced almonds
1 loaf of French or Italian bread cut into 1 inch slices

Combine eggs, sugar, milk, orange juice, vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon, and orange zest. Dip bread slices into the mixture coating both sides well. Spray a 9x13 pan with baking spray and stack the slices in layers in the pan. Pour remaining mixture over the bread slices. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

The next morning, preheat oven to 350 degrees. Melt butter to coat a large cookie sheet or use baking spray. Arrange slices in a single layer and bake uncovered for 20 mins. Remove from oven and sprinkle the sliced almonds over the slices and return to the oven for an additional 10 mins. Serve with orange sauce and fresh berries.

Orange Sauce
1/2 cup of butter
1/2 cup sugar
3 oz. orange juice concentrate

Combine and heat until sugar melts, but don't boil. Whisk together orange sauce with maple syrup and serve over the french toast.

Marnie,
This does look very yummy. And I love your photograph...very beautiful presentation skills!

I did get the french bread, but don't have quite everything I need. But I'll definitely have to make it another time. Thanks for the recipe!
